Boeing 307 - The Stratoliner

xxx

Below, postcards from my collection are shown per airline.

Please note that I have no ambition to collect Stratoliner postcards as such, but since I have quite a substantial number of postcards I find it interesting to group them together per aircraft type from a presentation perspective.

Number of postcards: x

Pan American World Airways (x) | TWA (y)

The Stratoliner Operators
Pan American World Airways

Pan Am were the original operator for 3 different Stratoliner aircrafts between 1940 and 1947.
The registrations used were NC19902, NC19903 and NC19910.

They were primarily used for their Central- and South-Amrican services.

TWA

TWA operated 5 different Stratoliner aircrafts between 1940 and 1951.
In February 1942 the five aircrafts were acquired by US Army Air Force for use during the WWII. They were converted to model C-75. The military returned the aircrafts in August 1944. TWA then sent them to Boeing for rebuilding becoming model 307B-1. Among other things the passenger capacity was increased from 33 to 38. TWA flew their Stratoliners to 1951 when they were sold all five to the French operator Aigle Azur.

Registrations used were NC19905, NC19906 (aka NX1940), NC19907, NC19908 and NC19909.

Besides the postcards above I have the following in my collection.

Aigle Azur

Aigle Azur bought all five Stratoliners of TWA in 1951.

Registrations used were F-BELU (ex NC19906), F-BELV (ex NC19905), F-BELX (ex NC19907), F-BELY (ex NC19908) and F-BELZ (ex NC19909). These aircrafts were first used on scheduled flights from France to North Africa. Three of the aircrafts (F-BELU, F-BELV and F-BELX) were later transferred to Aigle Azur's Vietnamese subsidiary (Aigle Azur Extrême-Orient) and were used in South East Asia.

In addition, one Stratoliner who earlier flew for Pan Am was aquired from Aerovias Ecuatoriana
and became F-BHHR.
